NEIL Elected Position Duties

NEIL Board Member

  • Elected at the Intercon Community Meeting, typically in March, two or three weeks after Intercon each year.
  • Serves a 2 year term.
  • Votes on NEIL Policy and Procedure Changes, and NEIL-level safety actions.
  • Ratifies NEIL Event coordinators/con chairs.
  • Ratifies elections to the board.

NEIL President/Chairperson

  • Elected by Community Vote, and ratified by the board, at the NEIL Annual Meeting, which takes place on the Sunday eight (8) days prior to the Martin Luther King Holiday in January each year.
  • Serves a 1 year term, which starts and ends at the end of the Intercon Community Meeting.
  • Is the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation.
  • Serves as Chairperson of the NEIL Board, and is a voting member.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Is the Intercon Con Chair, unless another person is elected to that position. (Note, Intercon O was the last Intercon that had the same person as NEIL President and Con Chair.)
  • Organizes and runs NEIL meetings and NEIL and Community Votes.

Treasurer

  • Appointed by the board at the Annual meeting in January.
  • Is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer of the corporation.
  • Maintains the bank account for the organization.
  • Files annual taxes for the organization.
    • Accordingly, the treasurer must reside in Massachusetts.
  • Handles reimbursements for money spent on behalf of NEIL by volunteers.
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.
  • Is a required position.

Clerk

  • May be appointed by the board at the Annual meeting in January.
  • Takes and maintains records of all proceedings of the directors.
  • Has custody of the seal of the corporation. (this is not relevant to NEIL.)
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.
  • Is an optional position.

Advisor

  • May be appointed by the Board at any time.
  • Is a non-voting advisor to the board, unless also in a voting position.
  • The previous President and Intercon Conchair remain board advisors for one year by default if not otherwise elected to a position.

Winter Boffer Con Coordinator

  • Elected by Community Vote, and ratified by the board at the Annual Meeting in January.
  • Responsible for all aspects of organizing the Winter Boffer Con and Little Boffer Con events.
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.

NELCO Coordinator

  • Elected by Community Vote, and ratified by the board at the Annual Meeting in January.
  • Responsible for all aspects of organizing the NELCO event.
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.

Game Wrap Editor

  • Appointed by the board at the Annual Meeting in January.
  • Responsible for all aspects of organizing the Game Wrap publication.
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.

Intercon Con Chair

  • Elected by Community Vote, and ratified by the board at the Annual Meeting in January. (~14 months before the con they’re running.)
  • Oversees all aspects of the Intercon convention.
  • Is a non-voting board advisor.
